I’m always wondering how they pick the hosts and acts for the Nobel Peace Prize Concert, as they usually seem so random. The concert in Oslo Norway today will draw attention to Nobel Laureate Martti Ahtisaari and his style of mediation as a peaceful solution to conflicts. Scarlett Johansson and Michael Caine are hosting the show and Diana Ross is headlining the concert. Along with Ross, Il Divo, Jason Mraz, Robyn, Dierks Bentley, Julieta Venegas, violinist Alina Vahala and nigerian singer Seun Kuti will perform.
The former President of Finland, Ahtisaari was bestowed the award in a ceremony yesterday. The Nobel prize committee said that Ahtisaari won this year’s award for his efforts on several continents and over more than three decades to resolve international conflicts. These efforts have contributed to a more peaceful world and to “fraternity between nations” in Alfred Nobel’s spirit.
It seems fitting to have a “random” concert to celebrate someone who has spent his life trying to combat the randomness of violence and conflict.
